▶ Why do some of your designs look similar to designs I've seen in "high-end" luxury brands?
I am a watch aficionado and collector of many of those "high-end" brands, so my designs reflect the characteristics I like in those watches. I design watches and source parts that pay homage to the classic luxury-brand designs, but with my own twists. I find that most people can't justify spending $10k+ on a luxury brand when they can have a similar look with automatic movements and high-quality components at a drastically lower price point. I find that most people would much rather wear a beautiful custom homage-type watch over a counterfeit of another brand.
▶ I've seen Seiko-branded dials from other "modders" and watch builders. Why don't you use Seiko-branded dials and other components?
First, I don't want any confusion. The watches I build ARE NOT Seiko watches, and Code Six Customs is not affiliated with Seiko or any other brand in any way. My watches are full custom builds mostly using Seiko/TMI NH-series automatic movements, which provide phenomenal performance, reliability, and ease of service. Secondly, the aftermarket components I source are often of superior quality to the mass-produced stamped-steel Seiko components.
There are two schools of thought in the watch building/modding world. Many builders and customers use Seiko-branded dials and other components. However, my philosophy is: Only the Seiko factories produce real Seiko watches, period. Code Six Customs produces watches with influence from many different styles, and cannot be branded as Seiko. If you wish to have a Code Six Custom with a Seiko-branded dial, contact me to commission a custom build.
▶ Why do you use automatic movements?
Primarily because automatic movements are more exclusive than quartz battery-operated movements. Automatic movements with a sweeping second hand have always been associated with high-end luxury brands, and preferred by watch aficionados. I use genuine Seiko/TMI NH-series and Miyota 8200-series automatic movements, which operate at 3hz/21,600 beats per hour, creating the second-hand "sweep". I can also use genuine Swiss automatic movements on custom builds upon request.
▶ Are your watches waterproof?
Simply put, “waterproof” watches should, in theory, be completely impenetrable by water. "Water-resistant" watches can withstand incidental contact with water for a very short period of time. Code Six Customs watches feature screw-down case-backs and crowns with appropriate gaskets. The manufacturers of the cases I use claim water-resistance, and I assemble them to manufacturer's specs. However, because the onus is on the user to operate the screw-down crown properly, my warranty does not cover any water-related damage.
▶ Can I request specific colors and designs?
Absolutely. You can commission a custom build by contacting me. We can discuss your preferences, and I can show you components available to me that fit your requests (cases, bracelets/straps, dials, bezels, bezel inserts, hands, and movements). Once you approve the components and we agree on a price, I require a deposit of $100.00. This deposit is non-refundable if you change your mind. I will only refund a deposit if I cannot source the parts, or if I have to cancel the build on my end for any reason. I can typically deliver the watch within 4-6 weeks, often quicker if I have the parts in stock.
▶ Why should I choose Code Six Customs?
Because you want unique, high-quality automatic watches with luxury brand design influences, built in America by a retired Law Enforcement Officer. If you want fake logos and copycat text fonts on fake dials, Code Six Customs is not for you.
Code Six Customs supports several first-responder and military related charities.
